Wonderful Book on the famous Costume Jewelry Designer Miriam Haskell.Her designs are so detailed with her famous glass baroque pearls, crystals, and Russian gold metals. Her designs are distintive and so Beautiful. You can recognize her Jewelry designs anywhere Worldwide. Thankyou. Jean Mooney.
This was a present for my wife, who is absolutely delighted with it. It begins with an outline history of the company, followed by a lengthy chapter on identifying and dating Haskell jewellery, and an illustrated section about advertising and the Haskell watercolours. The remainder of the book is devoted to the designers, namely Frank Hess, Robert Clark, Peter Raines, Larry Vrba, and Camille (Millie) Petronzio. Printed on high-quality gloss paper,it contains a wealth of detail, and hundreds of colour photographs which are noteworthy for their clarity. It's an essential purchase for the dedicated collector.
I have admired Miriam Haskell Jewelry for years and her pieces are very collectible. The pictures are very good, showing the fronts and backs of pieces, with detailed descriptions.
Love vintage jewelry and a big collector....this book was wonderful in all aspects from historical time line, to the Haskell back story from her youth to her first store in NYC to the pieces being sold at present. The photos are in color...which to me is a bog plus visually. Plus they have pricing for collectors...but that is of course just a guide line....but a good one. Great book all around.
Very rarely do I come across a book about collecting jewelry as good as this one! The authors obviously put a lot of time into researching all aspects of Haskell jewelry - including the company history, the different kinds of materials used, the actual construction of the jewelry and info on each designer.This book is worth every penny - whether you are a serious Miriam Haskell collector or simply an admirer of vintage costume jewelry in general. It makes other vintage jewelry books look shoddy and quickly thrown together, with no sense of history or an effort to educate their readers.My only complaint is some of the photos are a little dark and a few lack close-up details that I think would have been interesting to see. And even though there are lots and lots of great photos, I would have loved to have seen even more!
What beautiful jewelry to behold. Timeless designs mimicked by Miriam and others (imitations) in different jewelry mediums.Each piece is pictured, priced, described, and dated per design/manufacture. Little tidbits on history or inspiration/time period produced.I purchased this book for vintage period reference when creating my own beaded jewelry. I rate this at 4 only because a few of the colored photos are blurred or dark, which is bothersome--how can one appreciate these pieces?The rest of the photos are well done and show great detail.A great reference for collectors and admirers of Miriam Haskell vintage jewelry. All featured have a small background story when applicable, as well as date of manufacture, who manufactured it, and general pricing of worth.Some really stunning designs and awesome pieces.
What a treasure trove this book is for me! Never have I found a more comprehensive, and fully detailed book about this most beautiful, yet complex, line of jewelry. Great service, great condition and I much-needed book! Thank you!
It's too bad this book is so expensive. I don't think it covers the topic any better than any other book covering one designers jewelry. The photos are lovely and the information is excellent. I just think it is over-priced. I would, however, recommend it to anyone interested in this designer or to collectors.
